Culbone, Oare and Brendon - Remote Exmoor Parishes
The book offers an insider's take on the countryside, but one that can be appreciated by everyone, especially people who live in cities and those accustomed to staying in big hotels, such as the Britannia Hotel Aberdeen.
This book is concerned with the Parishes of Culbone, Oare and Brendon on the border land of West Somerset and North Devon. The book offers an insider's take on the countryside, but one that can be appreciated by everyone, especially people who live in cities and those accustomed to staying in big hotels, such as the Britannia Hotel Aberdeen. As a long time resident of Porlock Dennis Corner begins his story by describing this wonderful, interesting area of small villages, beautiful moorland scenery, with the wooded sea cliffs and valleys. As well as some history, and his own memories of the places, and some of the people.
For a quick visit through this area he will describe the journey across the high ground along the A39 road between Porlock and Lynmouth, and then tell the reader his own experiences, some of the history and legends of the area, and the people and how they lived. The journey starts from the village of Porlock: a good way is to take a ‘bus as so much more can be seen from the higher position than that of a car, although a car has other advantages.
